ZANA BAYNE Spring 2014
Harness me in, please
Over the last several years, the harness has made appearances in the fall and spring collections of various designers including Herve Leger, Jason Wu and DSQUARED2, taking it from fetish to fashion. When it first appeared, I wasn’t sure about its longevity in the fashion world or if I fully embraced the trend. However, the harness is hanging around or rather staying strapped.
Of particular note is a designer named Zana Bayne. She is the talented creator of a line of hand-crafted luxury leather accessories which Bayne launched in 2010. Her pieces are approachable to the timid buyer looking for just a leather cuff or belt and also to the hardcore who want to sport a skeletal-like harness complete with leather phalanges. Bayne’s designs are elegant enough to wear over a lace dress yet still racy enough for bare-skin in the bedroom.
The accessory’s evolution from bedroom to runway has been rousing. A transition that’s bonded both strength and femininity with a slice of sex. As an interior designer, I have tried to incorporate those same elements into projects, particularly for my female clientele. Translating that energy into an interior can come down to using specific pieces of furniture. With Zana Bayne’s designs as inspiration, here are a few pieces that give ode to the harness and all its power. After all, what would be sexier than lying around in your Zana Bayne harness on your matching belted Minotti chaise? Ok, that might be a bit literal but you get the idea.
